Kindle Format 8 (KF8). Rilasciato ufficialmente da Amazon


Amazon introduce ufficialmente il nuovo formato KF8. i tools (KindleGen, Kindle Previewer e Linee Guida) sono disponibili per il download  e offrono il supporto ad HTML5 e CSS3 con l’introduzione di oltre 150 nuove funzionalità di formattazione (tra le principali ricordo Capilettera, elenchi numerati, Layout fisso, nidificazione di tabelle, Pop Up, barre laterali …).

Kindle Fire è per ora l’unico modello in grado di supportare il nuovo formato, ma Amazon dichiara che nei prossimi mesi estenderà le nuove funzionalità a tutta l’ultima generazione di dispositivi a inchiostro elettronico compresa l’app dedicata alla lettura su personal. Nulla si sa (ma qualcosa si incomincia a temere🙂 ) sull’implementazione del nuovo formato nella generazione 3 (Keyboard Kindle) o DX.

E’ presto per tirare conclusioni sulla bontà del nuovo formato. Da domani test e prove renderanno ragione alla novità e solleciteranno aggiornamenti e critiche. Di sicuro si tratta di un ulteriore e notevole passo avanti della piattaforma di casa Amazon già forte dell’enorme successo di vendite dell’ultimo mese dell’anno trascorso.

    Dimmi se mi sbaglio, ma a leggere le specifiche mi sembra di leggere un manuale di ePub3… ma che, il KF8 è un ePub3 incapsulato in modo proprietario? Che compatibilità ci sono, secondo la tua esperienza, tra il KF8 e l’ePub3?
    Il Kindlegen accetta solo ePub, html e xhtml, e questo rafforza la mia convinzione…
    Ma allora perché non adottare semplicemente l’ePub3?

    Ciao Luke!
    Proprio così. Eppure Amazon prosegue nella sua scelta iniziale.
    Come compatibilità sta riproponendo la stesso rapporto che c’è tra ePub e Mobi. Nulla di più. Il motivo di questa scelta è solo commerciale. Amazon è fortissima attualmente e finché i risultati le danno ragione (vedi vendite record nel Dicembre scorso) si terrà la propria autonomia. Tantissimi Kindle (venduti quasi a prezzo di costo) sui quali ‘leggere’ una quantità enorme di libri in formato Mobi (come sai il vero business di Amazon è proprio qui). Possiamo essere d’accordo o meno, ma questo è l’Amazon-pensiero.
